Where do these OSRS prices come from?
The OSRS Wiki's real-time prices API, which publishes Grand Exchange trade data free. Escrowden caches it for a few minutes to avoid hammering their servers, and does not set or influence any of these numbers.
What is the difference between buy and sell price?
Buy is what you pay to take an item off the market immediately; sell is what you receive for putting one into it straight away. They are two genuinely different prices set by whoever is most impatient on each side, and the gap between them is the spread.
Why is the spread so large on expensive items?
Because few people trade them. An illiquid item has fewer buyers and sellers standing by, so the gap between the best offer and the best bid widens. It is why buying a megarare as a short-term flip usually loses money even in a rising market.
How often do these prices update?
Every few minutes. The page refreshes on its own while you have it open, and shows when the numbers were last pulled. If an update fails it says so rather than presenting old data as current.
Is the Grand Exchange price the same as buying gold here?
No. Grand Exchange prices are in GP and set by players trading in game. Buying gold on Escrowden is a real-money purchase priced per 1M GP by individual sellers, and those two things move for different reasons.
