How the movers are calculated
Every item on our tracked list is compared with itself, not with the rest of the market. We take the midpoint of its latest instant-buy and instant-sell price and measure how far that sits above or below the midpoint of its 24-hour average buy and sell price. The ten furthest above are the risers; the ten furthest below are the fallers.
Filters keep one-off trades off the list. An item needs at least 20 units traded in the last 24 hours, and both its latest buy and its latest sell must be from the last six hours; a rarely traded item whose last sale was a panic dump would otherwise top the fallers every day. Items averaging under 100 gp are left out too, because a one-gp tick on a five-gp rune reads as a 20% move.
Midpoints rather than one side because a single impatient buyer or seller moves one side of the spread, not the market. Click any item for its live buy and sell price, volume and a year of history.
FAQ
Questions about OSRS price movers
How are the biggest OSRS GE movers worked out?
For each tracked item we take the midpoint of its latest instant-buy and instant-sell price and compare it with the midpoint of its 24-hour average buy and sell price. The items furthest above that average are the risers; the furthest below are the fallers.
Why are some items missing from the movers list?
An item only ranks if at least 20 were traded on the Grand Exchange in the last 24 hours and both its latest buy and sell happened in the last six hours. Items averaging under 100 gp are left out, since a one-gp tick on them reads as a huge percentage. Without those filters a single odd trade on a rarely traded item would top the list every day.
How often does the movers list update?
Every few minutes, from the OSRS Wiki's real-time price feed. The page shows when the numbers were last pulled, and says so if the latest refresh failed rather than presenting older data as live.
Does a big rise today mean an item is a good buy?
Not on its own. A move against the daily average often reverses within hours, especially after an update announcement or a large merch. Check the item's own price page and its history before buying or selling on the strength of one day.
